Equipment

  • air fryer
  • sharp knife or mandoline slicer for even slices
  • cutting board
  • small mixing bowl
  • large mixing bowl
  • spoon or silicone spatula

Ingredients

  • 2 bananas (green or slightly yellow)
  • 2 tsp avocado oil or olive oil
  • 0.25 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1–2 tsp coconut sugar or granulated sugar (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 300°F (150°C) for about 5 minutes so the banana slices start crisping immediately.
  • Peel the bananas and slice them into ¼-inch rounds using a sharp knife or mandoline slicer. Try to keep the slices even so they cook at the same speed.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the oil and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  • Place the banana slices in a large bowl. Drizzle the cinnamon oil mixture over them and gently toss until all slices are lightly coated.
  • Arrange the banana slices in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Avoid overlapping so the hot air can circulate properly.
  • Air fry at 300°F (150°C) for 25–28 minutes. Flip the slices halfway through cooking and check for browning.
  • During the last few minutes, watch the chips closely to prevent burning as thinner slices may cook faster.
  • Remove the banana chips from the air fryer and let them cool for 5–10 minutes. They will crisp up further as they cool. Serve and enjoy.

Notes

For the best texture, use bananas that are slightly green or just yellow, not ripe. Ripe bananas contain more sugar and may soften or burn during cooking. Let the chips cool for 5–10 minutes after air frying, as they crisp up more while resting. If the chips lose their crunch after storage, reheat them in the air fryer at 300°F for 2–3 minutes and cool again to restore crispiness.
